Objective
The assignment given was to craft dynamic visuals to create a non-literal, visual, and typographic interpretive sequence inspired by a haiku of your choosing. I chose Yosa Buson's haiku, "Light of the Moon".
Haiku
"Light of the moon
Moves west - flower's shadows
Creep eastward"
This haiku creates a calm but mysterious feeling. It shows how everything in nature is always changing, even if it’s slow and quiet. It made me think about how light and shadow are always connected, and how something simple can still feel deep or meaningful.
Research
There is an idea of dual motion between the moon and the shadow which might be implied through typography displacement or a shift in layers. There is a stillness feeling and invisible shifts between the light and the shadow which could be implied through type weights or opacity to show the movement.
Sketches
These sketches are the first step in exploring the essence and meaning of the haiku and decide ideas for the layout of the booklet. They help explore the imagery and mood, guiding how the haiku’s tone translates.

Digital Ideations
The digital ideations step is where the rough sketches are brought into design software and I begin to experiment with the type and layout of the designs, allowing ideas to take a more refined and flexible form.

Final Booklet
The final ideation is a cohesive and engaging booklet that fully expresses the haiku’s tone. I wanted to capture the feeling in the haiku that even something simple can feel meaningful, I carefully considered the aspects of the booklet to evoke emotion and leave space for viewer interpretation.
