Part I: Creature Mark
Objective
The task given in class was to choose an animal and then graphically interpret it using fundamental elements of design and to communicate a set number of unique physical, behavioral, and personality traits.
Research
The research was essential in figuring out the squirrels behavior and physical attributes to ensure it is accurate, effective, and meaningful when displayed.
Sketches
The sketches were an important step to get all of the concepts on paper to then choose the one that displays the characteristics and behavior effectively while also keeping it visually appealing.
Visual Development
I then decided this view displayed both the appearance of the squirrel while also being dynamic and appealing. It showed some of the strongest characteristics such as it's bushy tail.
Final Creature
The final product came out similar to works from the sketching phase, emphasizing form and expression to give the creature mark character and emotion. Minor tweaks were made to the geometry, in order to align with consistent angles. This resulted in a cohesive and unified creature mark.
Part II: Interpretive Phrase + Image
Objective
The task given in class was to communicate the meaning of a phrase I assigned to my creature mark within specific limitations. The format of the composition has to form to the Fibonnaci Proportion. I explored both visual and linguistic methods of communication while focusing on style and composition.
Phrase
"Small and quick moves with time"
Visual Development
With the creature mark I already created, I was able to then start creating digital ideations where I began refining components such as form and detail. I began to see how the composition need to set up so that the audience can understand the phrase smoothly.
Final Interpretive Phrase + Image
The final creature mark paired with the phrase creates an elegant design displaying both the characteristics of the animal and the phrase, structured around the Fibonacci Proportion. This layout guides the viewer’s eye across the screen while maintaining a balanced and visually appealing composition.
